The mask mandate in the US was so badly bungled that this useful norm (making mask use an uncontroversial option in cold and flu season) is probably out of reach.

Many of us lucky enough not to get the covid also had the experience of not getting a cold or flu for the past year, and that was pretty great. But the political polarization meatgrinder means we can't have nice things, everything has to split along lines of identity

Same. And TBH, even for the next few months I'll probably wear a mask in stores, if I go to a movie...basically anywhere indoors where I don't know that everyone's vaxxed.

I knew Americans weren't ready last year. Americans need to see each other smile during *any* customer service interaction - even if the person making our food is coughing.

I hate smiling as a custom. Do it if your happy but when you're not, it's just punishment. Especially when you work in service industries.
