I'm inclined to view the fact that vaccine cards are extremely easy to falsify as a feature, not a bug. If we want a vaccine passport regime, then we should pass an appropriate law. It shouldn't just be rolled out as the bureaucratic side effect of a mass vaccination program.https://twitter.com/oneunderscore__/status/1387870849395576835 …

At the start of the pandemic, when the tradeoffs were different, I called for mass surveillance. If it turns out now vaccine passports are a lifesaving public health measure, then I'll support them. But it shouldn't be done sneaky and ad-hoc like this https://idlewords.com/2020/03/we_need_a_massive_surveillance_program.htm …

The tension here is that either the vaccine is voluntary, or it's not. I'm cool with either, but Congress needs to speak with a clear voice on the matter. Leave the lack of clarity on life-or-death issues to the CDC

universities have required immunizations for students for a long time. hospitals have required them for nurses etc. what's surprising?
-
the EFF quote in there isn't talking about the trade-offs head-on, it's just bullshitting. the whole thing is incredibly frustrating.

Why are you surprised? Schools, universities, and some employers requiring immunization has been routine for many years.

Not sure if it is the case for citizens. But as immigrant I was asked by my university to provide vaccination proof before entering USA

FWIW, Oberlin didn’t demand proof, they said if I provide proof, I don’t have to get monthly tests to access campus. Seems reasonable to me.

Back up—the root problem here is going to Oberlin!
