Tense discussions happen from time to time at work, it’s part of life. But when an employee questions a statement or a joke or even an apology by an exec, what happens next speaks volumes.

Pinboard. Please ask yourself why you're siding with breitbart. I know you're not stupid, you must realize what a red herring this is, I'm sure you've read the Verge article. Just step back and think, please.

But this was not setting boundaries, it just rejected the whole idea of diversity discussions outright.

Maciej, you’re one of my heroes so—wtf are you talking about? Do you have any evidence that happened here? Why wouldn’t you believe the reporting that someone brought up that pyramid and DHH got defensive, what about that sounds implausible to you?
-
The reporting sounds completely plausible (though I suspect there was a long list of other incidents before this). The pyramid is an excellent example of the kind of dynamic I'm talking about, and the response is one I agree with. You gotta stop this ridiculousness somewhere.

Workers in this employment sector aren't used to seeing this type of thing as a labor issue, but a ban on committees, and a statement that workers can speak for legislation supported by management, but not for causes unsupported by management, is an NLRB charge in the making.

Are you allowed to talk about football on the company dime/group chat? Then you are allowed to coordinate with coworkers about your working conditions (ie: concerted activity)

I think you're assuming that the circumstances that would make you take this kind of action are what caused them to take this action.

This goes back to what I've pointed out in a few threads already: you can just *moderate* things. It's entirely fair to set boundaries such that discussions remain constructive. Throwing "politics" out with the bathwater is not the solution here.

even if that was the “real issue,” the leadership decided to write whiny blog posts for the public audience rather than actually manage their company by talking to their actual employees
-
Oh, come on. If they hadn't written anything you'd be on them now for their silence.
