The work culture at rich tech companies (people read something upsetting in the news and want to discuss and 'process' it on company time) is so alien from most people's experience of work that it makes me despair for ever finding common ground with the actual working class
I think we all understand that the ban on 'societal or political' speech means a pretty baroque ideological worldview prevalent in our industry that arrivals from the working class or outside the tech world already have to struggle to learn

No, I don’t think we do. The gag rule uses two wildcard words that allow them to ban topics ad-hoc according to Jason and DHH’s political beliefs. Do they represent working class particularly well or something?

On company workspaces, the social/political channels tend to have more class diversity in one place than other channels. They’re probably one of the easiest ways for workers from privileged backgrounds to be exposed to ideas informed by less privileged backgrounds.

The baroque ideological worldview of "wait do we really have a list of foreign names we find funny"
