That's my fear too, that authorities go to the app stores and frame it as an even more egregious attack on law enforcement, and that interfering with investigations is all sorts of crimes.

If you want to ban Signal you have much better arguments than “Signal might pop a shell on our Cellebrite boxes”, like “Signal makes it much harder for us to investigate things”.

Totally. The "malware" boobytrap is a cute hack with a very limited lifetime. The payment stuff jumps directly into heavily regulated territory.
