I'm sure a full record of the President's tweets exists somewhere off the site already. I'm also sure that only Twitter has the complete picture, including the yuge comment threads, quote tweets, and all the rest of what is ultimately important archival material

Orwell envisioned a cumbersome system that required hand gardening of archives to keep them in ideological compliance, but in the online world, large portions of history can be deleted or edited by machine. This is a complementary issue to that of censorship or deplatforming

As someone who pushed hard to get Trump's account closed in 2017, I commend
@jack for finding the most damaging possible way to handle the situation—letting the guy use the site for incitement during his entire term, and then deleting the historical record.Show this thread
