a16z investments make a lot more sense when you look at them not as things expected to be lucrative long term, but as expenses for creating an a16z media empire.
I fondly remember getting http://Kozmo.com to deliver me a pint of Ben and Jerry's for like 2 bucks in 1999. That was fun. (OK, maybe now in retrospect horrifically foreboding of prime)
