Do you want diy or pre assembled? The coolermaster elite 110 does what you ask but might be bigger than you want. My DIY NAS uses it and is whisper quiet https://jmtd.net/hardware/phobos/ …

That looks super neat! My one concern is that I need to be able to run it as a Linux server, too, with at least 48 GB memory (so I can do Pinboard staging stuff on there). Can it hold that much RAM?

I think two SSDs would be fine, and 48 GB of memory or so plus a CPU that can run MySQL without melting

An Intel NUC is a Mac Mini for Linux; we all use them for testbed stuff.

Any tips on navigating the million different models?

My research led to the conclusion that purpose-built NAS were cheaper and better for the purpose than any DIY solution. Turned out Synology is built on Linux anyway. Haven't ssh'd in to check what it runs, but I could do if you care.

I have two synology thingos but I want a little hub to run them both that can also run a staging version of pinboard, so more computer-like. The Intel NUC seems like it will do the job
