For the last few days I've been asking longtime users to convert to a modern subscription plan. My favorite response has come from a beta tester who joined in 2009 but wants to wait and see how the product develops a bit before paying. May God grant you thorough beta testers!

Okay, I have a new favorite reply to this request: I didn't read your email, I am nonetheless volunteering to do the thing you asked me to, but screw you!pic.twitter.com/qooRwFT2UJ

Happy to say the response otherwise has been overwhelming and gratifying. Big thanks to all the old-timers who have converted their account so far!

What were they converting from and what are they converting too?

When
@Pinboard first started, Maciej had a pricing scheme where pricing rose by some fractional amount for each user. I think I paid maybe $5.47 for a lifetime of bookmarking (in the mid-2000s, I guess?). He’s recently emailed those people, suggesting they become subscribers.1 reply 0 retweets 0 likes -
Cool, thanks. I was curious since I got in on the tail end of that, but have yet to receive a request. Must be farther down the list still.

If you have archiving turned on, that may be the reason. I just reached out to old-timers with basic accounts for now (since there's nothing specific I can ask archiving users to do).

Sounds good. I'm sure I'll pony up when the time comes. I get a pretzel, right?
