Good numbers. Are there candidates that explicitly boycott Facebook ads? Among candidates that do Facebook ad buys, what's the budget distribution look like? Is Ocasio-Cortez an outlier?

I don't have the global numbers but Ocasio-Cortez is by far one of the biggest spenders on Facebook. The congressmen in her neighboring districts all spent $0. Carolyn Maloney (in NY-12 next door) spent $3,786.

Totally agreed. It's a shame we're at a place where giving FB money is a necessity even for people who hate FB.

I think it a necessary evil for many politicians, but
@AOC is extremely safe, popular and has an opportunity to lead by example here. - Show replies

Facebook is a monopoly, there's no escaping it. Just like you can't live life today without some reliance on fossil fuels -- even if you're campaigning to reduce their usage. Not communicating on Facebook would in fact impose a huge handicap on
@AOC or anyone. -
You should tell that to the Democrats in her neighboring districts who spent nothing on Facebook ads.

1) Every operation has a cost of raising funds, there's no sin on spending money to raise money; 2) FB is where you go to find engaged and active people; 3) Just because you use a tool doesn't keep you from wanting to improve it. yetyouparticipateinsociety.jpg

My point back in the original tweet is that: 1) This cost of raising money in this case approaches 100% 2) It is unnecessary, as demonstrated by her neighbors 3) The hypocrisy is harmful to her stated ends.

I'm sorry I offended someone you like, but at least do me the courtesy of checking this thread for this lazy meme before reposting it.
