There is Microsoft, Google, EngineYard, Heoku, and probably many more companies I’m not aware of. It’s a pain to move, for sure, but if you are a company running a chat platform for nazis and this isn’t part of your business plan it’s hard to feel any sympathy.

Yes it is, but it’s a supplier risk a company accepts for the cost and time to market trade off. Just because the probability of AWS is going very low, does nothing mean it is impossible.
