I am morbidly curious about how many miles you’ve put on that thing.
Last time I came out in a rental, so the answer is disappointingly specific—900-something
It's a bummer you got clipped mid-spin. When I wound up in a ditch in the UP ole Bessie didn't get a scratch. And the tow out of the snow-filled ditch was *insanely* cheap. Disappointed none of the jeeps I flagged down had a winch though.
I got clipped just after coming to rest against a snowbank on the far side of the road. For a moment I thought I had gotten away with just an embarrassing story. And I was just far enough off the road to require a $200 tow call. But I'm just glad no one was hurt
I will say that in terms of just getting random people to offer help (or a winch!), it is infinitely preferable to have a road accident in rural America than in a city
In every urban accident I’ve had, I have never not had weirdos pull up behind me, get out of their packed car, offer to “help”, and then demand money. It’s like they patrol the highways looking for people with car trouble to shake down.
I've had better luck with car trouble in NYC, where you can hold up jumper cables and some Hispanic dude in a truck will pull over instantly and help you.
