I got clipped just after coming to rest against a snowbank on the far side of the road. For a moment I thought I had gotten away with just an embarrassing story. And I was just far enough off the road to require a $200 tow call. But I'm just glad no one was hurt
I will say that in terms of just getting random people to offer help (or a winch!), it is infinitely preferable to have a road accident in rural America than in a city
In every urban accident I’ve had, I have never not had weirdos pull up behind me, get out of their packed car, offer to “help”, and then demand money. It’s like they patrol the highways looking for people with car trouble to shake down.
Oh man! Luckily I was a good 6' off the road. Dude charged me $50 for the tow ('74 Chevy tow truck!) and he had to drive 45 mins one way to get to me. And yes, people vastly more important than sheet metal.
