It's literally the quantum unit of political sacrifice—in that there's no sacrifice you could make that is smaller—but I see even people who believe we're halfway to fascism refusing to help worthy campaigns because they might get mildly annoyed.https://twitter.com/SteveBellovin/status/1312911854121951233 …

And if you think that democracy is in the balance, then I'm sorry, but man up a little. You'll get some spam.

See
@ErrataRob: They specifically do this. I don’t bother spam-trapping my political donations but others do, and I’m going to start... So how about the campaigns man up a little and stop squeezing a single extra buck by selling our contact info? - Show replies

How is it that the last time I gave to the Great Slate, every one of those campaigns has been hounding me ever since? Despite unsubscribes? It’s definitely made me hesitant to contribute again; indeed, I haven’t. This is your ball game. Do with this information what you will.

I don't really understand this question. Any charity or political campaign you give to is going to hit you up forever after for further donations, because there's a good chance you'll make them. This is different than sharing data with third parties.

You underestimate how annoying this gets. Android users may be better off but iOS users have few tools to block text spam.
