What many donors want is entity that you can donate to that will allocate the money to whichever candidate needs it most, on a dynamic basis. But such a thing is not allowed by U.S. campaign law. Anyone claiming to do so is a grift paying themselves a nice salary out of donations

One thing not many people know is that if you give money and have second thoughts, you can ask for it back! Campaigns aren't obligated to honor that request, but many will. So if you don't think money you gave to big name campaigns can be usefully spent, it's worth trying a redo

What happens if the campaign doesn’t use all the money? What happens to it?

For Federal campaigns, they can donate it to the party, refund it, or keep it for a future Federal campaign.

That's beyond my knowledge. But in practice, there are endlessly inventive ways to get around all the limits
