The political spam is genuinely annoying, but I just can't get into the minds of people who think this election is the last off-ramp before apocalypse and also carp about it. Would you have turned in Anne Frank to get off a mailing list?

The spam does get pretty irritating, tbh. Esp the rando text messages

I give to great slate, encourage others to give. It feels somehow insufficient. Like, the problems we're facing are broader in scope than the bizarre cult that's taken over a major party, & succeeding in voting the crazies out doesn't make progress on our more fundamental issues

Of course, Lessig's efforts haven't amounted to much so far. Maybe because he's trying to attack underlying issues directly, and we don't really have a mechanism for doing that. Maybe the way to make progress is actually in the trenches of small elections

Not that these people actually want a solution, but... one can just add +campaign to their email (like firstlast+Obama08@gmail) then create a filter that automatically deletes any email to that address.

You don't have to give a real email at all. But they'll find you anyway from public filings.
