The thing that bugs me about this kind of politician climate discourse is that it's not really honest. The idea of an emergency presupposes something that you can do. But humanity could disappear tomorrow and this level of warming would be baked in for many years to comehttps://twitter.com/NYGovCuomo/status/1304043986257096709 …

The sky is orange over California. Half a million acres are burning. This is what climate change looks like. The proof is right in front of us. This is a national emergency — it's now or never. pic.twitter.com/17CA4kSnui

It's not "now or never" with climate, it's "it was a while ago or never". Is there anyone who talks about this honestly while not being a nihilist or contrarian-for-contrarian's sake? I'm looking for language that encourages action while not misleading people about timescales

My specific issue with telling people "it's a climate emergency" is that it's like telling a 1200 pound person they're in an obesity emergency. It's not wrong, but it's not exactly helpful either

Have you seen @rewiringamerica? http://www.rewiringAmerica.org  - a Plan to totally electrify the US, powered by renewables. Requires huge changes, but would create employment (need to retrofit all current fossil fuel uses).

Isn’t it now or never to keep climate change *possibly* within the boundaries of catastrophe? The emissions budget for the next 15 years is looking pretty hard to achieve

That's why I'm looking for better language. A 4 degree world is a lot worse than a 3 degree world, but we're still stuck on "we must act now to stop climate change"
