I get that, but an equilibrium is only useful if the period is small enough. Otherwise small perturbations can re-destabilize it. So, carbon netural over [x] years. Depending on x this is either good or bad news.

This is silly. Wildfires are carbon neutral because the burned stuff regrows, and it's part of a steady state equilibrium.

Yeah, I understand this point. But what I'm trying to communicate is that for wildfires, the time constant is not very long. I used to have cites for this but am having trouble re-finding them
