I recently caved and got a Google Home device. ‘Always on’ isn’t quite what it sounds like. I use an accessibility feature to have it beep when the mic is actived and deactivated... it really only triggers with the keyword and turns back off quickly.
It is ‘listening’ 24/7, but only in the same way a mobile device unlock button is ‘monitoring’ your finger movements. So far the biggest privacy scandal is that some queries are sent to humans for processing when the algorithms are confused.
