I greatly enjoyed this blog post, but the part saying "any house in a city can get an always-on, several 10s of Mb/s connection" is absolutely not true, at least in the United States. You're lying to past you!

My SO teaches at a school where half the kids are from the Santa Cruz mountains. Even absent the fire, something like XX% of them could not get enough bandwidth at home for remote learning without a lot of work. That's Silicon Valley -- imagine all the other places...

There are entire sections of just metro San Francisco that have no high-speed Internet options. The last apartment I lived in (outer sunset) required going outdoors to get cell service from a major provider.
