“Oak Park borders the west side of Chicago, it is stupid and dangerous to consider defunding the police.”

“Idiots and politicians are only looking for power. What are you thinking defunding the police? These people are all lazybones. Discrimination is all bull. God bless this country”.

“We need to boost funding to the Harwood Heights police department. When BLM comes to Harwood Heights we will need the boys in blue”. <3 public comments.

Any Oak Park trustee that votes to defund the Harwood Heights police department has my vote forever.

The pro-defund comments think we spend 40% of our tax dollars on the police (not even close). The anti- thinks that violent crime is up in Oak Park (it is not).

There has been exactly one worthwhile comment read on this measure, by a 19-year-old Black man that was unreasonably searched by Oak Park police for allegedly matching a description of someone with a knife. Let’s see if the trustees drill in on that.

I don’t support de-fund measures (I won’t until those measures indicate that they know how much we actually spend!) — though I oppose “build a new 40MM police department”. But the public comments against this motion are an embarrassment.
