Didn't mean to spook people too much with this tweet. Remember Pinboard has two redundant datacenters 150 miles apart so there would have to be like two completely different sets of uncontrolled wildfires in California for there to be any danger.

remembering when a past employer put in writing that any location in California of any kind did not meet standards for offsite, secure, backup, or disaster recovery metrics and HOO BOY did vendors not take that well

Just one of those "burned out after too many incidents and don't care to investigate anymore" things more than intended to be a thoroughly rational policy. Also we're in MN and they got tired of vendor concentration

There's truth to it, though. Even the Sacramento colo I pay a premium for, in case of big earthquake, just routes much of its fiber through San Francisco
