Okay, 12 years into working on Pinboard I think I got my color bash prompt to work without screwing up line wrapping

What's bash?

You put me in a bind because half my followers would ask sincerely and for the other half it's a great joke

My time to shine! I obsessed over my bash prompt for a long, long time, and this was the result. Guided tour to follow whether you like it or not.pic.twitter.com/P2VodxlbAF

First, there's the title bar string, including a short but informative date. It is prepended to the prompt if bash detects that it is running in an xterm-like terminal or in screen (which uses different escape codes).

"Show me your PS1's!" -- wasn't that on a Chappelle's Show episode?

my prompt on my local machine is infinitely powerful. return code, k8s cluster/namespace, git branch/repo.pic.twitter.com/xf6TmlIp2T

I too take the philosophy of packing as much info as possible into that ever-present line of text. Some of my favorites are whether the git branch is dirty (via color) and the time taken by the last command (if > 10sec).
