We're just about $25K shy of our goal for the State Slate—an effort to put about twenty grand in the coffers of great state legislative candidates in close races. You can read about the effort here: https://techsolidarity.org/resources/state_slate.html …, but let me just profile a couple of them in person

This is Ricky Hurtado, running for state house in an exurban district west of the Research Triangle in NC. He's a son of immigrants running on a platform of public education and expanded access to health care; his incumbent opponent is a former Wells Fargo executive.pic.twitter.com/O2yoGjOpmO

In 2018, the Democratic candidate in Ricky's district lost by less than 200 votes. This district is 15% Latino, but only 3,600 of those 21,000 residents are registered to vote. Imagine what a few bucks in Ricky's pocket to fund targeted voter registration efforts could achieve!pic.twitter.com/1QIV33WraO

Jonathan Kassa is a director on the North Penn School District Board, and has an extensive background in campus safety. He has a deep understanding of education policy and the realities of public school bureaucracy in his district, which covers two townships north of Philadelphiapic.twitter.com/d2UZZZjHZh

In Pennsylvania, Democrats need a net gain of nine seats to win the state house majority in 2020. In Kassa's district in 2018, the Democratic challenger lost by just under 900 votes. This is an eminently winnable race, but it requires some hustle, and that hustle costs money.pic.twitter.com/5YIycvqg3F

In Florida, Kayser Enneking is a medical doctor running for state house in District 21 west of Gainesville, one of the seven districts where Gillum won the vote for governor, but a Republican was sent to the House.pic.twitter.com/8NkH20PvuQ

Her district spans the urban/rural divide in the state, covering part of Gainesville in the east, and rural areas with crappy broadband and poor health care in the west. She's running on health care and education, like so many others, but also on water quality, a key local issue

I could go on in this vein. The thing that unites State Slate candidates is that they are in close races, they have a relatively low campaign budget to raise, and they are dedicated public servants who are trying to bring better health care and public education to their districts

You can help them run the best campaign they can right now, with a donation big or small, so they can spend every minute of the next four months talking to voters, and not trying to figure out where to scrape up a few thousand dollars during a pandemichttps://secure.actblue.com/donate/state_slate …

Pinboard Retweeted Dr. Bent
The absolute dollar amounts standing between us and critical issues like medicaid expansion, fair redistricting, gun safety, police reform are staggeringly small. And yet in states like Florida, state-level Democrats are being outspent 6:1!https://twitter.com/lbent/status/1282078032803450880 …

When you compare that level of spending to what's been raised nationally for seats that are completely safe, the mind reels.pic.twitter.com/UHi7KjfDgU

Less that $16K between us now and our goal for this first round of state legislators. If there's any year to really put our backs into winning close, contested races, it's 2020. Redistricting alone will decide a lot of political fates for the next decade.https://secure.actblue.com/donate/state_slate …
