I recommend every working programmer who does everything in the cloud and can afford the experiment try putting together a personal server with 2020 hardware to play with. You will be amazed at what is possible without the 90 abstraction layers.

Anyway this is why you pay a small annual fee, so I can drive hundreds of pounds of hardware 800 miles during a pandemic.

This is just a bunch of storage stuff, but every time I do a hardware thread I like to plug KingStarUSA, a family-owned business in the South Bay that will build you servers to order. Just a superb bunch of people who know their stuff and do good work. http://www.kingstarusa.com/index.php

I would strongly *not* recommend that QVO drive. Get an EVO or a Pro. I have a 4TB QVO and it has very *very* odd performance characteristics. It's basically a tape drive.

seriously, this is a bad idea. Like.. really bad. Get the Evo or Pro.

Out if curiosity, why three different types of SSD?
-
I need a 2 TB SSD for the main database, which is going to outgrow its current 1 TB drive, so I figured I'd try two kinds and see which worked better (there are two copies of the master DB). The other drives are just drives I know I like and work well, for server upgrades.
