It's a special kind of hell having spent the first three months of the pandemic in Japan, and knowing that all of this goes away if people are just conscientious about wearing face masks. It's like watching a relative dying from a disease while the cure sits on her nightstand.

Apologies. Just pointing out that a lot happened here to contain the epidemics - with very impressive discipline to me as a French person compared to my own instincts and how people behave back home. Assigning all the success to the masks alone seems short sighted to me.

This is the complacency period when everything about the response relaxed except masks, and it's exactly when the cases spiked again! Then we resumed the response and cases fell. Masks seem to help but I don't know why you keep pretending the rest of the response didn't happen.
