Yup. The difference is that Palantir has massive conflict of interest in that they make money precisely BY selling intelligence to the government. Private industry originally, but decreasingly so these days, was motivated to PROTECT consumer privacy in order to generate trust.

I understand what you're saying, but I kind of differ with most privacy advocates in not seeing the private/gov't distinction as important. The data is either collected or it isn't, and the government has very little trouble getting what it wants (usually just asking is enough).
