I've said with perfect seriousness for a while that the Loma Prieta quake did more for San Francisco than the entire tech economy. Earthquake urbanism is the only way to get Bay Area upgrades. Now we're simply globalizing this important Pinboard insight on disaster progressivism

The serious lesson of COVID for global warming is that there is no way we are ever going to reduce emissions enough and need to seriously start a massive electrification and nuclearization program. Maybe even blow up the occasional strategic stratovolcano.
