They do. But that ignores Trump’s extraordinary capacity to blame everyone from Dems to the media to the Deep State to minorities for his failings and to have that secure and galvanize his base. He is unlike ordinary party politicians tethered to actual policies and results.

We've actually just had a natural experiment. DJT double down on the Bigotry Uber Alles in rallies for 2018 candidates. He got his ass handed to him by the same sort of suburbanites soiling themselves in 1968. Nobody knows nothing.
