My plea to people writing about Trump's actions on Hong Kong is to solicit the opinion of Hong Kongers! They think, they tweet, they have a diversity of views, the standard of journalism is superb, and lots of people write in English or translate back and forth from Cantonese.

I’m often appalled by French newspapers talking about Taiwan, voicing China’s ministers comments and American comments. But not quoting Taiwan’s MOFA or President ... I think it’s been improving but I can still remember this being true a few months ago.

There are a lot of Francophone Taiwan Studies scholars in the database I linked to in my own reply. Sometimes I write to reporters and editors and just point them to it so they know how to easily access information. Can’t hurt, I think!
