I'm writing this from Japan, where very few people are infected but mask-wearing is almost universal, precisely because people understand the benefits of having everyone follow a preventative behavior in a socially visible way. And this in spite of fairly hot and humid weather

The point of wearing masks even when you are 100% sure you aren't infectious or in a situation where you could possibly infect others is to create a social norm that gives everyone the freedom to wear a mask. Somehow it's late May and Americans still catch static for mask wearing
