Big victory for Japanese exceptionalism over Slavic pessimism. But I hope we can parlay that victory into understanding that we can use worldwide with similar effect.

Back in March,
@miekocakes translated and kindly shared two documents that shed light on the approach Japan took. I'll post them here for the curious. The first is an overview of cluster strategy from the Japan Society of Public Health https://drive.google.com/file/d/1nc6Q57DJHWkqsUqyuQonCPNRDVdGb_oV/view?usp=sharing …pic.twitter.com/elC26l5b3J

And here is a slide show version of similar material. Again, note that these are from March and may be out of date. But they demonstrate the intense focus Japanese public health authorities put on tracking chains of clusters and superspreading events https://drive.google.com/file/d/1HIi_fKDDMXRkbp6K1QgkaNCy5OyBmpgW/view?usp=sharing …pic.twitter.com/off6IHGdIw

Super big thanks to
@miekocakes, who put great effort into translating this stuff and helping to cross a language barrier that has proved difficult for foreign observers of the Japanese public health system.Show this thread

There is a difference in how Japanese and English give off respiratory droplets. English pronunciation results in more being given off....

Your optimism is 100% ridiculous, and has finally convinced me that we are 100% screwed, because no matter what my stupid country does, you will continue to make these ridiculous inferences.
