Question for gamer twitter: if Space Invaders were written today, there would be a cutscene where the young protagonist watched their beloved father die by alien hands, setting up her character arc and motivation to shoot spaceships. When did this tiresome era of gaming begin?
They are also the fun open-world exploration games. It's like dinner theater where the food is good, but you have to watch a crappy play between courses.

Yeah, but then if open world exploration is to actually be fun, this world needs to be rich and worth exploring. How do you build that without setting it in context of a story? No Man's Sky tried a story-less gigantic world and people complained it was boring as shit.
