Another funny metric for you: Portugal v Spain; it doesn’t make sense why Spain got bowled over but Portugal is ticking along. OTOH here in Canada my impression is you won’t get tested unless you’re at death’s door, and i’m no longer so sure they can’t hide the bodies per se

Since the human immune system is apparently an absurdly complex dance of co-regulation between mammalian cells and microbiome (I Contain Multitudes by Ed Yong - 9780062368591), it seems likely that regional difference in microbiome is a factor. (Warning: I am not a scientist)
