There is a point at which telling Americans to treat a highly regional crisis as a national one is not going to remain tenable. The strategy of accusing anyone who wants restrictions lifted of mass murder will backfire once a region lifts them and nothing really bad happens to it

There is something like 20% unemployment now and Americans are going to notice that other parts of the world seem to do fine with far less strict measures. We need to be honest with people that the lockdowns are a necessary precaution born of ignorance, not a moral imperative
