People in New York City are getting coronavirus just sittng and self-isolating at home. 66% of hospital admissions fit that profile. Meanwhile, Japan seems to be turning the corner with very little intervention. Nothing about this makes sense to me.https://www.cnbc.com/2020/05/06/ny-gov-cuomo-says-its-shocking-most-new-coronavirus-hospitalizations-are-people-staying-home.html …

Many places with big outbreaks have involved shared cafeterias/catering. (Prisons, meat packing plants, nursing homes, funerals and weddings, a Catholic girl’s school in New Zealand.) What if asymptomatic people can transmit it through food, and takeout is a contagion factor?

Oh, and cruise ships. When I looked at “super spreader” events, I thought, “gee, some of those places involve everyone eating from one dining facility.” Then I started researching and they ALL did. It could be a coincidence or it could be the missing link.

Are you certain that the people in New York who are self isolating are self-isolating *alone?* Early on China reported 85% of spread was family-member to family-member within households, until they started central quarantine.

I find it fascinating that every time you pen a "covid19 confuses me thread" you get dozens of competing explanations, and each explainer is convinced their answer is the correct one.

Dude, don't want to japansplain it to you, but go do business there, and read Saving the Sun, and you will realize that Japan's numbers never make sense because they are all just made up to fit a political purpose.

I am not going by the official numbers, but by the absence of bodies in the street, or of large sections of the medical system incapacitated

I'm also very confused by this - Vitamin D seems like it could be a factor?https://www.dropbox.com/s/ka7h4fbi7xdz9s9/Covid-19%20and%20Vitamin%20D%20Information.pdf?dl=0 …

Which would explain the northern bias and why Japan, with higher than average vitamin D in their diet, has been an outlierpic.twitter.com/3U2ir0UNgb

I live in B.C. Canada. We're in "lockdown lite", where we can't get a haircut or go to a pub, but all the restaurants are open for take out and all the stores too, with plexiglass barriers and marks on the floor for line ups. We are doing fine.pic.twitter.com/KYDxv7egQI

But Quebec, just across the border from New York, and in full lockdown, is a nightmare. What's going ON?!pic.twitter.com/4iRE32QATq
