People in New York City are getting coronavirus just sittng and self-isolating at home. 66% of hospital admissions fit that profile. Meanwhile, Japan seems to be turning the corner with very little intervention. There's coronavirus epidemic lite and coronavirus x-treme, no convincing explanation for the difference, and a thousand theories, none of which persuasively fit all the data until you start mixing and matching them together into a complex quilt of rationalization

The data you posted shows that 'workplace mobility' is down 80% in NYC during the workweek, compared to around 40% in Tokyo.

I'm not claiming it's life as normal. People have obviously changed their behavior a lot (although working from home in particular in Japan is hard for some stupid reasons). But it's very much closer to normal life than NYC.
