They only eradicated after public pressure closed that border, and they rely on an incredibly strict quarantine to keep visitors (like old Pinboard) out. I'm genuinely curious whether Matt thinks that's a desirable goal nationally or regionally

Hong Kong doesn't have that, so no. He likely is arguing for something like HK is doing with travelers (centralized quarantine & significant testing for new arrivals), but the US can't be bothered with that.

How would a total travel ban help US at this point? US has most cases of any country in world right now. Would not be surprised if other countries start banning us.
