(Addendum—I misspoke upthread in a confusing way. When I say "weaned" I meant infants who were fed a diet of pap and pasteurized milk, not breast milk, which contains Vitamin C. Rich kids got pap for two years or more. Poor kids ate real food sooner, and got breast milk longer)

I like your indoor shoes theory. Because I’m a NYer that does not wear shoes indoors.

Would be great if we could find out
@ZengoMd Is it innate immunity conferred by a mix of exposure to pathogens, vaccination (oral polio drops)? That countries that didn't lock down, allowed travelers, experienced higher viral loads, with high infection, death rates? -
Possibly, if you are acting "normally" and unaware that virus is out there. Subway is a distinguishing incubator of viral load. Asian subways less of an issue because they already are wearing masks so had flatter initial curves.

I just strongly suspect it will come down to money at some level (or prevalence of genetic variations, which I suspect influence eg the Mediterranean diet as much as behaviour and culture do)
