I really don't understand the coronavirus at all. Simultaneously very contagious but apparently quite responsive to social distancing measures, and very uneven in its impact. This thread is a safe space for the confused; those with the answers can have the rest of Twitter.

Forced to guess, I’d bet a lot of the variation had to do more with initial seeding and early super spreader events than any government response. A super spreader event in early February is gonna make a huge difference in case counts mid March.

Why Ecuador and not Bangladesh? What's the deal with Japan? Why New York City and not Boston? Why Lombardy and not Sweden? Why were Florida and Louisiana not a crisis? Stuff like that is what puzzles me and doesn't seem to paint a coherent picture.
