In March it was clear that Japan was massively undercounting cases, but there weren't enough to strain the medical system. Now that we've reached that point, the reluctance to test widely continues. Abe is one of the worst leadership failures of the pandemic, in a crowded field.

Compare to Denmark - with 10% of the population of South Korea and about the same number of tests as Japan. And everyone here is complaining about the lack of testing....

Up to and including yesterday, there's been done 152 000 tests here in Norway, population 5-ish million.

Yeah, and the low number of cases in Japan was being used an an argument by critics of the lockdown here in Portugal (10M pop), despite the tremendous disparity in tests (we ran 300,000 already).
