Forgive me if this is a cold question; I genuinely want to understand the answer. Isn't a 90% death rate of coronavirus patients on ventilators somewhat in tension with the message that we have to do everything in our power to flatten the curve so we don't run out of ventilators?
Yes. If the figure is lower, then my question is moot. I hope the figure is lower!

In health care systems that have a lot of cases but aren't overloaded, I've seen stats on 20-50% mortality (80-50% survival rate). It is probably strongly correlated to which patients are selected for ventilators.
