Lying? Did the photographer super-impose people for it to look crowded? The photo is simply showing the moment in time and the observer can surmise how they wish.
In the image above there is a child less than a foot running behind the lady on the left. Pretty sure they are not of the same family unit. Fairly certain “lens tricks” didn’t cause this effect
