A story I would like to understand better is to what extent Japanese authorities have failed to fight the pandemic because of an idiosyncratic "chain of clusters" theory about how it spreads that discourages widespread testing.

It might be based on the observation that SK had its cases under control, until they discovered a super-spreader belonging to a cult church. The person was told to isolate and they ignored the instructions, leading to thousands more cases.

talking spreads droplets further and more abundantly than keeping your damn mouth shut singing is even worse Probably aerosols aren't an issue under most circumstances (i.e. if you're not intubating a patient). Probably it's just droplets.
