It's 100% true for copper. Not sure about brass but more plausible than you'd think

Metals that oxidize and tarnish are effective. Copper alloys would be effective while gold would not. Once an oxide layer forms, metal less effective. Many anti-microbial products are using nano sized particles of silver, more expensive and effective than copper.

Interesting... I'd been wondering why the virus persisted so much longer on stainless steel than on copper...
