Oh my God, let people go outside. This is lunacy.https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2020/apr/11/test-of-resolve-britons-warned-to-stay-at-home-as-temperatures-set-to-hit-26c …

Stay at home as in use the garden. Where I am in south London we’ve been encouraged to stay and use our own gardens if we have them, so that the parks are quieter for people who don’t

      Matt Webb added,

If you are lucky enough to have a garden, please ask yourself whether you need to leave your home this weekend. The fewer people who use our parks for exercise, the easier it is for those who need to use them, to do so safely #SouthwarkTogether

Yeah, this stuff I'm 100% for. The Ministry of Defence boats bullhorning at beachgoers, not so much

Respectfully I disagree, given that the UK is reaching Italy level daily deaths it feels like drastic action is required to ensure that the NHS is not overloaded. Once the curve has been flattened, then sure reduce measures and guidance, but the UK is not at that stage yet IMO.

My quibble isn't with the idea of drastic action, but the implementation. Public trust is not a renewable resource. Focusing on lone beachgoers rather than crowded indoor spaces just erodes this trust and shortens the period of time people will be compliant

I agree, but British people are by nature a nation of “can we get away with this” ideologists and thus IMO the chance of a “lone beach goer” is probably unlikely. Brighton beach was busy a few weekends ago, Hampstead + Broadway food market too even during lockdown.

I wish the UK government put in more rules around limiting numbers / distance in supermarkets and restaurants and encouraging working from home from Jan / Feb, but alas they didn’t act until it was far too late.
