Then whoever could raise the most money would have a prohibitive advantage, and a movement like Bernie's wouldn't have a chance to gather momentum. You'd still end up with an unsatisfying choice. That said, I think the current sprawling calendar is ridiculous

You'd still need a mechanism to winnow a large primary field. Having multiple primaries lets candidates demonstrate that they can win votes—a quality some of us find appealing!

I like ranked choice a lot. I live in Maine, where we have it, along with public funding of state elections! I'm open to all kinds of reforms personally; I just don't like the idea of having One Big Primary with everything else held constant
