With respect, too much of the commentary in this area right now starts with a desired conclusion (location tracking is not just bad, but won't work) and builds arguments backwards from there

It's also likely that some location tracking techniques that don't work well in cities will be extremely useful for tracking suburban and rural contagion, as well as long-distance spread. Just because a technical approach doesn't work in Penn Station doesn't mean it's not useful

Also, you’d need a protocol to allow the lawful authorities to push apps with unblockable location-tracking privilege to phones without the users’ cooperation, and a way of keeping the NSO Group, Russian Mafiya and/or Facebook out of it.
