At this point I assume whatever Fauci says and does is at the outer limit of his ability to act without being fired. I value him extremely. But what an immense tragedy it is to be led by the worst people at a time when we even the best people would struggle.

it really depends on which test you're taking. Shouldn't they do multiple tests if the accuracy isn't high enough?

The answer to that question depends on the nature of the false negatives. If the same patient always gives a false negative, then no number of tests will help.

I agree with the role model thing. Trump will never wear one because it messes with the aura of invulnerability he wants. But Fauci should absolutely wear one to encourage others.

I bet you could get Trump to agree to only take questions from reporters who were wearing a mask, even if he wasn't. The dynamics of that would actually be pretty amusing.

I saw it in passing here: https://www.livescience.com/covid19-coronavirus-tests-false-negatives.html … Uncertainty in the number seems to be very high, and it depends on the test type. But my understanding is that false positives are rare, but false negatives fairly common
