And about masks- I get that they’re not a “go out in public” pass. I get that they’re at best 40% effective. But here’s how I feel about it: I’m used to weather related catastrophes. You can see the effects of a tornado/hurricane/ice storm.

When i step away from the news and go out (For essentials) it’s a beautiful spring day. I go to the grocery and there are people there. Everyone there appears well. I can for a moment think everything is ok. I’m human. I like fooling myself. Everything is not ok.

If I see people in masks, and if I am wearing a mask, it’s a constant reminder to be aware and careful and stay away from everyone for all our sakes.

Thanks for bringing this up! I don't think people appreciate the psychological value of seeing everyone masked up, and how much it helps bolster other habits (like social distancing)
